The Pan-African Counter-Corruption Assembly (PACCA) has convened at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) and ministers, law officers, heads of counter-corruption agencies and counter-corruption experts from nations across Africa, as well as delegates from IGOs, MDBs and the private sector are attending at the invitation of the Hon. Ronald Lamola MP, South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Correctional Services.
The PACCA is being hosted by the Africa Regional Centre of Excellence in Integrity (AFCOE), and is supported by the Arab Bank for the Economic Development of Africa (‘BADEA’), global mining company Anglo American, and international law firm McAllister Olivarius.
Professor Lee Marler, a Co-Founder of the AFCOE and a Director of Pavocat – leading advocates in the global fight against corruption – said, “It is an honour for the AFCOE to be hosting the Pan-African Counter-Corruption Assembly and I am delighted to welcome so many politicians, leaders and experts who are committed to tackling the scourge of corruption in Africa.”
Continuing, Prof. Marler said, “Over the two days that the PACCA is convened, we have a busy and important schedule to meet. This schedule and its content are extremely challenging, as is the challenge faced by African nations in tackling corruption at home. Our attendees are well aware of these challenges, and it is up to us all to find the beginning of the solutions that African nations need to put in place the right measures to tackle corruption in all its forms.”
The PACCA convenes for two days on 2nd November, and running until the close of business on 3rd November 2023.
